A Twin Block Brace is a removable orthodontic appliance designed to correct jaw alignment, particularly when the lower jaw sits too far back. It works by gently encouraging the lower jaw to move forward into a better position as your child grows, improving both function and facial balance.
The appliance is made of two parts: one for the upper teeth and one for the lower. These fit together like puzzle pieces when the mouth is closed. When worn consistently, these two “blocks” guide the jaw into a healthier position over time.
Your orthodontist will show your child how to insert, remove, and clean the Twin Block appliance. It may feel a little bulky at first, but most children adjust within a few days. Speaking and eating take a little practice, but this quickly becomes normal.
Twin Block braces are removable, but they can feel more uncomfortable when first fitted. This is temporary, and as the muscles and jaw adapt, the appliance becomes much easier to wear.
The key to success is wearing the appliance full-time, except for eating, brushing, and contact sports. The more it’s worn, the faster and more effective the results.
Organise Your Visit“My brother Jack and I would like to say a very, very big thank-you for all the work you have done to make our teeth look really brilliant. When I had my braces removed I couldn’t believe the difference to my teeth (I can’t stop smiling now and I’m not worried about showing off my teeth).”
“Couldn’t recommend Dr Bhatti more highly. I had Clear Aligners at HMOC and couldn’t be more pleased with the result. Dr Bhatti is a perfectionist and was so helpful every step of the way. Thank you so much!”
Creates lasting improvement when used during growth
Varies depending on treatment plan
Encourages proper jaw growth and improves facial balance
Typically 9–12 months
Mild pressure at first; most children adjust quickly
Children and teens (ages 8–14) with developing jaws
The Twin Block uses two removable plates: one upper and one lower. These fit together to gently guide the lower jaw forward, improving bite and facial balance as your child grows.
You might feel slight pressure or mild jaw ache at first, but this is temporary. There’s no need for anaesthetic, and most children adapt within a few days.
Treatment usually lasts around 9–12 months, depending on jaw growth and how consistently the appliance is worn. Regular wear leads to the best results.
